Summer Returns

After the weekend, when a couple of weak fronts and troughs
cross the county, the Azores High begins to push in from
the southwest bringing a return to some warm and dry weather
.

1 July 2022

Automatic Annual Rainfall Totals underread by 10.2mm due to wi-fi outage earlier in the year.

Dry Year

Half way through the year and we're a whole month (50mm)
drier than the previous driest at this stage (2005).
That year remained dry throughout the second half.
This year follows 2021 which was one of the driest years.

The Comma has a really distinctive outline. Like most butterflies its colour scheme when
its wings are closed is less interesting (and more camouflaged). However when the wings are closed
you can see a little white 'c' or comma from which it gets its name.

Staplefield Anorak is a privately-run, not-for-profit website. (The previous website, .co.uk rather than .com has been hi-jacked and the content, some of it original, is nothing to do with me!)

Occasional attempts are made to forecast the weather for certain local events. It should be noted that my only qualification for this is a slightly unhealthy interest in the weather, and in rain in particular.

Current weather is reported every 5 minutes from an automatic Davis Weatherstation in my garden in Staplefield. It is not sited very scientifically and is sheltered from the west & northwest, which leads to wind reports which may not represent those experienced elsewhere in the village. The site is approximately 300ft (91m) above sea level.

Other readings should be fairly accurate, although they should not be relied on for anything more than general interest. UV readings are definitely not accurate and should be ignored.

Other pages on the website depict recent weather graphically and another, the level of water in our well (which may give some indication of groundwater levels). There is a photographs page which is updated every few days. I either post pictures of the village or of wildlife and nature around the village. I am happy to post any information that may be of local interest.

I always welcome feedback, so please use the contact me link if you would like anything added, or removed, from the site, or to send in anyphotograph that you think suitable for publication. I also welcome general comments, praise, quotes and weather-related jokes, funny or not.
