It was almost dark as I was watching a flock of recently-arrived Redwings when this Greater Spotted Woodpecker
appeared in front of me. Too dark for a decent picture.

Wettest November?

Friday and Saturday see a weak ridge bringing some calm before
another depression arrives later on Sunday
.
The wettest November has been 2009 with 209(!)mm.
Another 53mm is needed over the next seven days to reach this.
Unlikely, but possible.

Another Warm Month

How warm the year has been can be seen by following the dark blue
average temperature line and comparing it with the paler blue previous years.
2015 and 2011 had warmer Novembers than this year. Just.

Only in 2009 and 2011 have we remained free of an air frost this late in November.
The record is December 1st and it looks likely thatthis will be beaten this year.
Will we have a year soon where the first proper winter frost
occurs after Christmas or even the New Year?

Staplefield Anorak is a privately-run, not-for-profit website. (The previous website, .co.uk rather than .com has been hi-jacked and the content, some of it original, is nothing to do with me!)

Occasional attempts are made to forecast the weather for certain local events. It should be noted that my only qualification for this is a slightly unhealthy interest in the weather, and in rain in particular.

Current weather is reported every 5 minutes from an automatic Davis Weatherstation in my garden in Staplefield. It is not sited very scientifically and is sheltered from the west & northwest, which leads to wind reports which may not represent those experienced elsewhere in the village. The site is approximately 300ft (91m) above sea level.

Other readings should be fairly accurate, although they should not be relied on for anything more than general interest. UV readings are definitely not accurate and should be ignored.

Other pages on the website depict recent weather graphically and another, the level of water in our well (which may give some indication of groundwater levels). There is a photographs page which is updated every few days. I either post pictures of the village or of wildlife and nature around the village. I am happy to post any information that may be of local interest.

I always welcome feedback, so please use the contact me link if you would like anything added, or removed, from the site, or to send in anyphotograph that you think suitable for publication. I also welcome general comments, praise, quotes and weather-related jokes, funny or not.
